Over the years, I’ve seen businesses become surprisingly good at working around the limitations of their systems.
Information gets moved around because applications or platforms don’t quite talk to one another. A workaround is created for something that should be simple and, before long, it’s become part of the process. People know the system has its frustrations, but they’ve learned to live with them.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve found working with Sherlox AI so refreshing.
Sherlox is a relatively young collaborative work management platform, and that gives it an interesting advantage. It has been built using today’s technology, with the benefit of seeing how businesses now work and what users have come to expect from their systems.
There’s a real openness to asking, “How do you need this to work?” and then building around the answer.
Sherlox takes a more flexible approach, starting with what the business really needs. Once you see what that makes possible, it becomes clear that businesses don’t have to keep putting up with this sort of friction and frustration. Quite simply, it doesn’t have to be this way.
Very different problems, one flexible platform
As I’ve got to know Sherlox more closely, I’ve seen the variety of problems it has already helped its customers solve.
One Sherlox customer, an affordable housing resident services provider, had information spread across multiple business systems. They also needed to manage resident surveys, reporting, documents and compliance requirements, with more than 500 users requiring different levels of access.
Sherlox brought those requirements together into one environment, while allowing individual users to see and interact with the information relevant to them. That meant less juggling of access across separate systems, with permissions and licences able to flex around who actually needed them.
Another Sherlox customer works in solar installation. Their challenge was very different: they needed robust online project planning, but their different types of installation followed different project journeys.
Rather than having to force every project into the same structure, Sherlox enabled them to create templates reflecting the way those installations are actually delivered. Each project starts from the right foundation and can then be tailored as needed.
Those are very different organisations with very different requirements and that’s really the point.
Starting with how the business needs to operate
The value of Sherlox comes from being able to start with how the business needs to operate. That might mean bringing information together, creating a particular workflow, giving different users different views, connecting with specialist systems already in place or building reporting around the information that matters most.
Even the way people experience the platform can be shaped around what will make it easiest for them to use. That matters, because however powerful a system is, it still has to work for the people who rely on it every day.
A natural fit
At SBP, we’ve always believed that running a business doesn’t need to be more complicated than it already is.
A big part of what we do is helping people step back from the systems and processes they’ve got used to and ask themselves whether there’s an easier way.
Very often, there is.
That’s why Sherlox feels like such a natural fit for us. We share the same belief that technology should make life easier for the people using it. My role is to understand what a client is trying to achieve, where things are getting in the way and what a better way of working could look like. From there, we can use the flexibility within Sherlox to build something around the business, with direct access to the Sherlox development team when we need it.
Having spent years helping organisations improve the way their systems and processes work, I find that approach genuinely refreshing. Rather than making things hard work, Sherlox simply focuses on making things work, whatever that takes.
